Key Dates and Events:
Hello GSSA Parents:
Thank you again for enrolling your kids in our program. We hope you had a great season. Thank you, too, for submitting the survey responses. Your feedback was positive, but some of you noted areas for improvement. Most notably, some asked that we prevent a recurrence of officials failing to show for matches. The GSSA Board agrees with your observation and will take immediate steps to address the referee shortage that we, as well as other leagues, are facing.
First, we will attempt to create a larger pool of referees by offering a second training class this winter if applications warrant it. To incentivize participation, GSSA will reimburse the course fee for graduates who officiate ten (10) GSSA games. To be eligible, participants must turn 12 years of age or older in 2014. If your child is of age and has a passion for soccer, please support their participation. We also encourage adults to take the class. We have fielded a number of parent/child referee teams in the past. They have enjoyed the experience and it is something that we support. In the near future, we will publish details of the referee class on our home page.
As an additional incentive to attract and retain officials, we will significantly increase their pay. Details of the pay scale will be shared in the near future, but we are confident the new compensation structure will generate a lot of interest.
In exchange for the new incentives, GSSA will hold officials to a higher standard for their commitments. If a referee fails to show for a game without a valid reason, he or she could be permanently eliminated from the referee pool.
We believe our initiatives will yield positive results and will make our program run even more smoothly.
Thank you again for supporting GSSA. We hope you have a good winter and look forward to seeing you in the spring.
